Major change in store for countryside science
2019/2020
Introduction to Aviation expanding into Cte
Since 2004 the Introduction To Aerospace has offered students an opportunity to study the science of flight. Details on that program can be found under the Science Classes tab.
In the Fall of 2019 we'll be offering students at Countryside, and those from neighboring schools, a new Career and Technical Education course.
Our new curriculum is provided by the AOPA, an organization representing the largest aviation community in the world. This curriculum will provide participants a unique and expanded flight program.
Through the Spring and Summer we'll be offering regular updates as the course moves through the CTE approval process with the State of Michigan.

Celebrating 20 years - time flies too
Back To School
Each year goes by so fast. Gracious.
I have a mountain of video and pictures to add to this site. Check back often for updates. For now watch a short video of a Physics activity that we've been talking about for years. On the last scheduled day for Seniors, we did it. Find it at the bottom of the Physics Page. Bull's Eye 2016.

Summertime science
the blueberry festival fly-in, South haven mi
On August 9 I attended the South Haven Airport Fly-In with my daughter Isabel. Below is a clip of our favorite part. Favorite after the hot pancakes and fresh blueberries that is.
These fly-ins are great fun. Sometimes the weather cooperates and sometimes it does not. Low visibilities made for scarce airplanes early in the day but I attend to meet people who love the science of flight and there are always more friendly people at these gatherings than there is time. At South Haven I met Ron and Mike who were enthusiastic to talk about balloons. If you think the view from the outside is cool, take a look from an inside perspective!
Summertime Science - Our drone at work
The video below is a short compilation of footage taken around the Bainbridge Township. As we film farm activity and farm property we are always asking ourselves how this readily available aerial footage might benefit agricultural operations. We'd like to hear what you think about it. Feel free to contact us with your ideas or suggestions.
Mr. Wicks (high school English) and I have been working on a project to video the eighteen holes of a golf course. This is an experiment first proposed by Mr. Cook (high school social studies) who suggested the idea that a fly-over of a golf course might provide a beneficial view for golfers who are unfamilier with a particular course. Below is a two minute sample of our work:
science NEWS - flying quadcopters
The science department has purchased two UAVs (unmanned aerial vehical).
The smaller of the remotely controlled aircraft, also known as drones, is an Ethos QX 130 quadcopter. Shown below:

This easy to fly device will be used by the Countryside Aerospace Team to introduce students to the emerging applications of the drone.
The larger of the UAVs is a DJI Phantom with a built in camera. Shown below:

For examples of the extraordinary images captured by this amazing device see the Earth Science page in the Science Classes tab. I also have some unedited clips taken at our annual car show. Those are found on the Events tab. Also, under that tab you'll find footage from our annual 5k run.
