Team America Rocketry Challenge
Countryside Academy first competed in the Team America Rocketry Challenge in 2004. This annual contest generally attracts between 700 and 800 teams who attempt to design a scratch built rocket that flies according to specific criteria. A typical "rocket mission" would be to carry one raw egg to an altitude of exactly 800 feet with a complete flight time from launch pad to recovery of exactly 45 seconds. Team rockets are flown and scored by independent observers. The 100 top performing teams in the country are invited to fly identical missions in Virginia where prizes and scholarships are awarded to the top five teams.
Though we have moved on to other aerospace pursuits, our years of rocket building were both memorable and treasured for all involved. Below are samples of our efforts in that first year. Dustin demonstrates the challenge of the multistage rocket.
