To the Parents of Countryside Science Students;
I have been thoroughly convinced that the only student who cannot complete a standard high school science class, is one who surrenders. I want to help |
Being a high school teacher is a great privilege for me. It is my second career; one I transferred to after working in the aviation field which I dearly loved. My choices have been carefully made, based on my determination to use my innate skills to help others identify and exploit their innate skills.
While I accept the fact that a spectrum of students, hold a spectrum of attitudes toward the study of science, I am confident that all educated people should understand how science works, and what its contribution to our community is. I endeavor, in our daily routine, to make my science courses challenging and rewarding to those who excel at science, while manageable and profitable to those who struggle. I attempt to make real world applications to the topics we study, and I work to entertain serious questions even when they "diverge" from the subject at hand. I didn't learn to treasure science until I was an adult. I want to help my students use science as the tool it is, to see the extraordinary design of a breathtaking universe. When it is too hard, it is because we are so early in our effort. We must stay with it. The reward is great for those who do not faint. Success will mean different things to different students, but I am sure we can all agree that it is a terrible waste to spend a semester in a classroom and receive no credit for the course. I want all of my students to pass. I also want passing to mean something valuable in every single case. Through my decades of teaching, I have been thoroughly convinced that the only student who cannot complete a standard high school science class, is one who surrenders. Mathematics, and critical thinking, and complex vocabulary, are genuine difficulties for high school students, but they are not the final cause of failure. It is my experience that if a student will refuse to give in to apathy, or anger, or despair, and will take advantage of the helps available to them, they will have a meaningful level of success. It is my intent that this website will be one of the helps that make success for your student an attainable goal. With this improved platform for communication, I'll be working always to make expectations clear, obligations manageable, aid accessible, and instruction motivational. Mr. F. Frazee |
