Introduction to Flight
In March of 2019 Mr. F. Frazee made a proposal to the Countryside School Board for the expansion of the Aerospace Course into a CTE Program. With the board's enthusiastic approval, work has begun to adopt a formal curriculum provided by the AOPA that will insure course elements meet State CTE Standards.
In June of 2019 Mr. Frazee is scheduled to travel to Frederick, Maryland for three days of training in the new curriculum.
Through the summer of 2019 the old Ag Building is scheduled to be converted into a renovated science facility with particular attention given to the needs of the CTE program.

Western Michigan University - Aviation Outlook - April 5, 2019
Western Michigan University hosted their annual Aviation Outlook Day on Friday.
Associate Dean, Ray Thompson suggested I visit to get a sense of the tempo of the current job market for commercial pilots and mechanics.
I visited with eight or nine of the ‘Reps’ and each assured me that we are in the midst of an honest to goodness hiring frenzy. Especially in aircraft maintenance. I intended to take more pictures but got involved, talking, and talking, and talking…

Here are a handful of take-a-aways:
- This is a great time to pursue a career in aviation. If this is where your interest lies, there is room for you.
- Aerospace is, as it’s always been, a demanding field. Aircraft require a high degree of skill and competence to maintain and operate.
- Flight training is insanely expensive, but there is good news for those who are not blessed with wealth. The demand for new aviators has put pressure on the industry to find better ways to finance student pilots. If you are determined to fly, there are ways to make it happen.
- Aircraft mechanics are finding jobs immediately after completing their training. Jobs often mean relocating. Starting pay for new Airframe and Powerplant mechanics is; Good. Do a little research. You won’t be disappointed.
- The military will pay you to learn. When you leave the military, your flight or maintenance skills will be in high demand. It’s not for everyone, but if it sounds like it might suit you, a talk with a recruiter may be in order.
