Grade boosters for chemistry
The Periodic Table
This Grade Boost will be available until the end of the first marking period.
Bring in a small sample that contains a significant (not trace) amount of any of the elements represented on the periodic table. A compound is acceptable but each compound may only represent one element. Be prepared to defend your claim about the contents of your sample.
Your sample must be small enough to fit in a 3 oz. dixie cup and large enough to identify with the unaided eye.
If your sample is in a liquid or gas state it must be presented in a sealed container.
Each student may provide one sample on each day that the class meets.
An element may not be represented by more than three samples.
The first sample to represent an element will be worth 3 points. The second sample for the same element will be worth 2 points. The third sample will be worth 1 point.
SAFETY FIRST!
If you start with the readily accessible elements found in ordinary safe materials, and use ordinary methods of handling those materials, there should be no abnormal safety issues.
